Unmanned Vehicle Systems
Camera Stabilization
Applimotion has supplied ULT frameless direct drive motors for camera stabilization platforms for many years. These motors offer large through holes, high accuracy positioning, low speed smooth operation, and light weight. Perfect for direct drive of any gimbal system that is flying.
Vehicle Traction
ULT and ULT High output frameless direct drive motors used with traction gear drives may sound counter intuitive. However, low profile and high throughput can also benefit vehicle traction. Getting to the largest diameter motor produced the highest motor constant and best efficiency. High speed doesn’t have to be thousands of rpm, sometimes 1200 rpm is fast.
Propulsion Underwater
Frameless motors, like the ULT-H series, are routinely used in thruster applications for the US Navy based underwater systems, commercial remote operated vehicles, oceanographic institute under water subs, and vehicles that perform underwater inspection. Applimotion ring type torque motors offer many options for propellers or impellers.
Top of PageSatellite Tracking and Pointing Systems
Direct drive is the accepted approach to gimbal systems used in communications and tracking systems. Applimotion routinely supports these systems with both traditional ULT motors and our new Slotless ULT-S motors. The slotless motors offer exceptional smoothness with zero cogging torque and near zero harmonic torque distortion. If you are positioning or scanning, and smoothness is king, slotless is the best alternative.
Generators
Three phase permanent magnet generators can benefit from Applimotion ULT motors. In these applications voltage constants are altered to the generator requirements. Three phase sinusoidal voltage waveforms are well tuned to complement generator electronics.
Direct Drive Robots
ULT frameless motors and ULT-O outside rotating frameless motors are being used in many direct drive robot systems. Whether a bench top pick and place application or a rotary pick and place robot, these solutions offer low profile, high performance with large through holes. Getting to the largest diameter possible is best for direct drive. It limits the range of gain scheduling required during operation.
